Rates & measurements
Coverage
At the ~400 sq ft per 4 lb rate, plan near 1 lb per 100 sq ft (about 0.16 oz per sq ft). Ease back in containers, very rich soil, or when a soil test calls for it.
Broadcast (beds & lawns)
Apply evenly, lightly incorporate into the top 1–2 inches where roots are active, and water in. Skip application before heavy rain on slopes.
Rows & vegetables
Side-dress along rows or band in the root zone per crop stage; split into lighter passes if the plant is young or the soil is already rich.
Trees & shrubs
Use the dripline as your target zone, not the trunk. If your label shows cups or tablespoons per inch of trunk or per canopy area, follow that chart.
